Natural Remedies for Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are an extremely widespread problem, yet few people talk about them openly. Swollen veins in the rectal area cause pain, itching and discomfort. Fortunately, there are natural remedies that can bring significant relief from symptoms.
Remedy 1: Oak Bark Sitz Bath
Oak bark contains tannins with powerful astringent properties that help reduce inflammation and shrink hemorrhoids.
Ingredients:
- 4-5 tablespoons of crushed oak bark
- 2-3 litres of water
How to prepare: Boil the oak bark in water for 15-20 minutes on low heat. Strain the decoction and let it cool to a comfortable temperature (warm, not hot). Pour it into a basin and take a sitz bath for 15-20 minutes. Repeat twice a day, morning and evening.
Remedy 2: Aloe Vera Gel Compresses
Aloe vera has a powerful soothing, anti-inflammatory and healing effect.
- How to use: Cut an aloe vera leaf and extract the transparent gel. Apply it directly to the affected area with gentle motions. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Repeat 2-3 times a day. The gel can be stored in the fridge for an added cooling effect.
Remedy 3: Chamomile Sitz Bath
Chamomile is a gentle natural anti-inflammatory, well suited for the sensitive area affected by hemorrhoids.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 tablespoons of chamomile flowers
- 2 litres of boiling water
How to prepare: Prepare a strong infusion by steeping the chamomile flowers in boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain, allow to cool to a pleasant temperature and take a sitz bath for 15 minutes. Repeat daily.
Remedy 4: Natural Calendula Ointment
Calendula (marigold) is renowned for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of dried calendula flowers
- 100 ml of olive oil
- 15 g of beeswax
How to prepare: Place the calendula flowers in olive oil and let macerate for 2 weeks in a sunny spot, shaking daily. Strain the oil, warm it gently and add the melted beeswax. Stir well and pour into a clean jar. Apply to the affected area 2-3 times a day.
Remedy 5: Cold Witch Hazel Compresses
Witch hazel is one of the most effective natural remedies for hemorrhoids, thanks to its astringent properties.
- How to use: Soak a cotton pad or clean gauze in witch hazel water (available at pharmacies or health food stores). Apply to the affected area and keep it on for 10-15 minutes. Repeat 3-4 times a day. The cooling effect soothes itching and pain.
Remedy 6: Parsley Tea
Parsley helps strengthen blood vessel walls and improve circulation, making it a useful internal adjunctive treatment for hemorrhoids.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley leaves (or 1 tablespoon of dried parsley)
- 300 ml of boiling water
How to prepare: Pour boiling water over the parsley and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink 2-3 cups a day. Regular consumption for 2-3 weeks can bring noticeable improvements.
Additional Tips
- Eat plenty of fibre (fruits, vegetables, whole grains) to maintain regular bowel movements and avoid constipation.
- Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.
- Avoid sitting for long periods. Get up and move every hour.
- Do not delay going to the toilet and do not strain — this worsens hemorrhoids.
- Moderate physical activity (walking, swimming) improves circulation and prevents worsening.
- If bleeding is heavy or symptoms do not improve within 1-2 weeks, consult a proctologist.
